Mohamadali Alikhani is a 40-year-old visual artist whose work explores memory, place, and the quiet traces people leave behind. He studied fine art in Tehran and spent several years working between painting, photography, and found materials before developing his current practice. His work has been shown in independent galleries and group exhibitions across Middle East. He now lives and works in Tehran, where the changing light and layered history of the city continue to shape his work.
My work begins with memory, but not as something fixed or reliable. I am interested in the way places hold fragments of experience and how small traces, an abandoned object, a worn surface, a shift in light, can carry a quiet emotional weight. Through painting, photography, and found materials, I build images that move between observation and recollection. Tehran is an important presence in this process. Its density, changing light, and layered history continually enter the work, sometimes directly and sometimes through atmosphere. I do not try to document the city as it is. Instead, I work with what remains after a place has been lived in, passed through, or remembered.
